Public works
Sidewalk repair and public works concrete
Public works is on our license, so we can work in the city's right-of-way: sidewalk repair and replacement in front of your property, and the driveway approach from the street.
What we build in the right-of-way
- Sidewalk repair and replacement in front of your property.
- Driveway approaches, the sloped section between the street and your driveway.
- Approaches for new driveways on SB 9 lot splits and new builds.
Why it takes a public-works license
The sidewalk and the driveway approach usually sit in the city's right-of-way, not on your lot. Work there needs a permit from the city and a contractor licensed to do it. Our CSLB license (#914103) covers general building, the C-8 concrete specialty and public works. We pull the permit and build to the city's standards.
Common reasons people call
- Tree roots have lifted the sidewalk and made a trip edge.
- You're adding, widening or moving a driveway and need a new approach.
- A lot split or new home needs its own driveway approach.
Questions
Who handles the city permit?
We do. Sidewalks and driveway approaches are in the city's right-of-way, so the work needs a city permit; we pull it and schedule the inspection.
Can you build the driveway too, not just the approach?
Yes. We pour concrete driveways on your lot as well, so one contractor can handle the driveway and the approach together.
